Hydrogen Stress Cracking Behaviour in Dissimilar Welded Joints of Duplex Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel

As the need for duplex stainless steel (DSS) increases, it is necessary to evaluate hydrogen stress cracking (HSC) in dissimilar welded joints (WJs) of DSS and carbon steel. This study aims investigate effect weld microstructure on HSC behaviour gas-tungsten arc welds In situ slow-strain rate testing (SSRT) with charging was conducted transverse WJs, which fractured softened heat-affected zone under hydrogen-free conditions. However, occurred at martensite band interface austenite bands type-II boundary. The acted as an initiation site because presence a large amount trapped high strain concentration during SSRT charging. Even though some microstructures such boundaries were harmless normal conditions, they had negative atmosphere, resulting premature rupture weld. Eventually, fracture boundary hydrogen-enhanced strain-induced void (HESIV) localised plasticity (HELP) mechanisms.
